The Bunbury Carnaval truly is more than just racing!!!
With concerts, cricket, swimming, showjumping, markets, festivals, outdoor cinemas, trotting, golf, beach volleyball, fine dining, arts activities and a street fiesta, the Bunbury Carnaval is an action packed nine days in Bunbury!
Carnaval week is an ideal time to visit the South West, with pristine beaches, amazing forests and award-winning wineries all easily accessible from Bunbury. As well as the region’s extensive natural attractions, visitors can enjoy all of the South West’s restaurants, shopping, galleries, diving, surfing, and nightlife. You can even swim with the Koombana Bay dolphins thanks to Bunbury’s Dolphin Discovery Centre!
It’s obvious that the Bunbury Carnaval is more than just racing, but racing is the true highlight of the week! Pacing kicks off the week with the City of Bunbury Mayor’s Cup at Donaldson Park on Saturday 8 March.
On Tuesday 11 March, the day starts early with Breakfast with the Stars and Racing Radio broadcasting live from the Bunbury Turf Club. See some of racing’s biggest stars and be there for the all important barrier draw for the $130,000 XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup!
Tuesday’s main event is the $110,000 Custom Irrigation Bunbury Stakes Day, featuring the $80,000 Patron’s Plate. Bunbury Stakes Day is all about the ladies with fashion, music bubbly and hats, hats, hats at Bunbury’s Biggest Garden Party, supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA. As well as ladies, you’ll also find some superb racing at the BTC on Bunbury Stakes Day. With the running of the $110,000 Custom Irrigation Bunbury Stakes and the $80,000 South West Breeders Patron’s Plate, you will see some of the state’s leading sprinters in action.
Bunbury comes alive on Wednesday night with the annual Viva Street Parade with music, food and fun throughout Victoria Street. The festivities continue at the Burlington Hotel with the official XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup Calcutta and the calling of the card.
The $130,000 XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup is held on Thursday 13 March. The XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup is the South West’s biggest one day party! Catch the racing action all afternoon, dress up and strut your stuff in the South Western Times Fashions on the Field competition and stay on course for the BTC’s Big Bash, featuring Melbourne-based band, Carus and The True Believers! Live it up in the Diamond Chimes Marquee, shine in the Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Marquee, relax in CabanaLand, schmooze in TentLand or simply enjoy the day amongst the crowd, just don’t miss the party of the year!
