Bunbury Turf Club Style Guide & FAQs

General Dress Code Guidelines

Recommended Attire for Men & Women

There’s no strict uniform at Bunbury, but race day is the perfect excuse to dress up a little. Think smart-casual at a minimum – save the boardies and thongs for the beach.

Ladies:

✓ Mini dresses, jumpsuits, or a chic co-ord

✓ Millinery is always encouraged (but not mandatory)

✓ Wedges or block heels are race day MVPs

Gents:

✓ Dress pants or chinos with a collared shirt

✓ A blazer or jacket if you’re feeling fancy

✓ Leather shoes or polished boots (no runners, please)

What Not to Wear

  • Let’s keep it classy. The following might get you turned away from member-only areas:

    • Ripped jeans or denim shorts

    • Sneakers, thongs or casual slides

    • Offensive slogans or sportswear

  • Members and reserved hospitality areas may enforce stricter dress standards. If you’re unsure, assume the dress code is elevated – it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

 FAQs & Common Concerns

  • Yes! Especially for Fashions on the Field or member areas. That said, there’s no pressure – it’s totally up to your personal style. No helmet-style fascinators from 2004, though. Please.

  • Kids can dress comfortably – just no swimwear or PJs, please. For groups (like hens, bucks, or corporate parties), coordinated outfits are welcome as long as they’re respectful and race-day appropriate.

  • No one’s going to escort you out for wearing jeans, but race day is one of those rare excuses to scrub up a bit. Think “smart casual” as your baseline. Save the footy shorts and rubber thongs for Sunday arvo at home.

  • If you’re planning to hit the Members Area or exclusive hospitality spots, steer clear of runners. Stick to leather shoes, polished boots or something that says “I made an effort”. For General Admission, you might get away with it… but don’t push your luck with gym kicks.

  • Some race days are a bit more laid-back and family-friendly, others go full glam. Check the event calendar for the vibe – then dress to match. When in doubt? Go slightly overdressed. Better to look sharp than sheepish.

  • Ah, classic Bunbury. Pack a jacket or a stylish shawl just in case – and don’t forget sunscreen if it’s looking toasty. Choose weather-appropriate fabrics and avoid outfits that’ll go see-through in the rain. We’ve all been there.

  • Potentially, yes – particularly in Members and hospitality areas. If your outfit includes ripped denim, thongs, offensive slogans or sportswear, security may politely (or not so politely) turn you away.
